In a heartwarming blend of music and philanthropy, Uganda’s celebrated Afro-fusion group, Janzi Band, is set to mark World Autism Day with a dedicated charity event at the Home of Hope in Jinja.

The upcoming visit highlights a growing movement among Ugandan artists to use their platforms for social good. By spending the day with the children and staff, the band aims to raise crucial awareness about autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities, while providing tangible support to the facility’s ongoing relief efforts.

Located in the Jinja district, the Home of Hope is a community-based, non-profit organization that serves as a sanctuary for children with multiple physical and mental disabilities. Founded by Edith Lukabwe, the center was established to offer physical care and compassion to children who have nowhere else to turn.

Currently, the organization is home to nearly 100 children, ranging in age from six months to 18 years. Due to increased poverty and a lack of social aid, many of these children were neglected or abandoned by their families. At the Home of Hope, they receive dedicated care for various conditions, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, deafness, blindness, and hydrocephalus.

Janzi Band’s charity drive aligns seamlessly with the core objectives of the Home of Hope. The organization works tirelessly to ensure that disabled children are not just sheltered, but are socially accepted and nurtured to develop independent life skills.

During the event, the band is expected to engage in interactive activities with the children and donate much-needed supplies. Because the Home of Hope relies completely on the generosity of individuals and charitable organizations, such contributions are vital. The donations help fund basic necessities, specialized medical treatments, mobility equipment like wheelchairs, and daily occupational therapy.

Beyond immediate relief, Janzi Band’s presence is expected to amplify the conversation around disability rights in Uganda. The Home of Hope places a strong emphasis on community awareness, conducting home visits and outreach clinics to educate parents on how to best care for disabled children and to reduce the stigma associated with these conditions.

By shining their spotlight on this Jinja-based sanctuary, Janzi Band is sending a powerful message of inclusion: that every child, regardless of their physical or mental challenges, deserves to experience joy, music, and hope.
